There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that features a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
