Cambodia Casinos

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features many luxuries aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
